Why Ovulation Matters

Many women and girls and just people in general, think that the period, the bleed, is the main event of a female cycle. But that is just not the case.

First off, in order to have an actual period, a female has to have ovulated prior, or it just considered anovulatory bleeding, break through bleeding or something else. Once your ovaries release an egg, a corpos luteum is formed, that corpus luteum sends out progesterone to stop your body from ovulating anymore for that time. The egg travels towards the fallopian tube and either gets fertilized or disintegrates. The corpus luteum only lives for a couple weeks if pregnancy does not occur, that is when progesterone would drop and your body would get the signal to begin preparing to shed the endometrial lining (lining of the uterine wall). Once that shedding and degeneration process begins, that is when you start to bleed and that is an actual period.

If your hormones are not working in harmony then ovulation cannot occur and therefore your period will not occur.

Today I decided to do a quick google search of this question to find out what the "main internet" had to say about it; here's the question: "is there a risk when women are not ovulating regularly?" And everything that came up, mostly main media sources and 'medical hubs,' all said “No, no, no. It’s totally fine to turn off your reproductive organs and hormonal matrix and suppress ovulation. Your fertility will return after you stop taking hormonal birth control and there’s no proof of long term risks.”

This is what I found in a nutshell and I couldn’t believe it. Even articles from websites that promote female health and wellness like period/fertility tracking apps and fertility sites!

How can it be completely benign and no-risk for a woman to suppress her monthly cycle, suppress this normal biological process, suppress the production of adequate amounts of progesterone for long periods of time?

What if you “turned off” your heart? What if you “turned off” your lungs? What if you “turned off” your nerve receptors? None of that would be ok - turning off a regular bodily function has to have consequences.

Although your ovaries, adrenals and fatty tissue can offer your body small amounts of progesterone, the CORPUS LUTEUM, which is the remaining part of a follicle after you release an egg during ovulation, is the MAIN SOURCE OF PROGESTERONE for a female body.

Progesterone is a necessary female hormone and is used to balance the estrogen that is present in higher quantities in the first part of your cycle, among having many other roles in the body.

Regular healthy ovulation is a sign of well-being and vital health in a woman and, like I mentioned, after ovulation is the only time when your body produces large amounts of naturally occurring progesterone.

Progesterone is not only necessary to sustain a pregnancy …it is necessary for the proper functioning of a female’s:

  1. Metabolism

  2. Thyroid

  3. Bone health (progesterone helps build new bone cells)

  4. Overall hormonal balance and function (digestion, immunity, stress management, brain health, weight management, sleep and energy)

  5. Cardiovascular system (regular low or no progesterone is linked to cardiovascular issues later in life)

So, to review, regularly suppressing ovulation or having regular non-ovulatory cycles is linked to:

  • Mood and anxiety disorders

  • Low energy

  • Metabolic problems

  • Cardiovascular issues

  • Osteoporosis

These are the FIVE MAIN ISSUES we see women struggling with today.

So cnn.com and flo.com and medical news today .com ….can you still tell me that suppressing ovulation, which in turns deletes natural progesterone productions in the Body is 100% risk free?
